I went to Mission Peak at 5 am to see the second lunar eclipse of 2011. Another one won't occur until 2014. Funny thing is, I was just at Mission Peak, hiking to the summit, the night before, getting home at around 9am. When I learned that the lunar eclipse was taking place early the next morning, I decided to stay up and return to MP. I was quite surprised to see so many people already there. The Stanford parking lot was nearly full, but I did manage to find a spot. There were couples, families with little kids, and dogs hiking up the main trail in a very festive atmosphere. I settled in at the second bench since I didn't want to miss anything. The experience was fantastic. I'm glad I went!
