Mission Peak Full Moon Perigee
I hiked Mission Peak this past Saturday evening, the same day the full moon was at perigee. Perigee and its opposite apogee generally occur once a month, but the moon's wobbly orbit means that the moon's phase can be different during each perigee/apogee. This month's full moon happened to coincide with its perigee making it appear 30 percent brighter and 14 percent larger than any other full moon this year.

The hiker with the light passed me and continued down the trail. If you look closely at the ridge on the left just below the city lights, you can see the silhouette of a cow. The cows were mooing very loudly to each other that night.
