2010 Healdsburg Wine Country Marathon and Half
Shalimar and I went on our annual trip to Healdsburg to race in the Wine Country Marathon and Half-Marathon. This year's races were held on October 10th (10/10/10) - an easy date to remember during our summer of training. Unlike last year, the weather was unseasonably warm and the heat made the race very challenging. The course temperatures ranged between 60 degrees at start time to a high of 96 - a perfect day for a run! Shalimar was trying to set her personal record by beating last year's time of 2:45:02.8 and I was making my third attempt at breaking four hours. I wonder how we did...

Exhausted and feeling a bit light-headed from the race, one of the race photographers asked if I wanted my picture taken. At that point all I could think about was walking around and finding Shalimar. I didn't even think to wear my race medal. I think I was a little dehydrated because they ran out of water on the course. The race director even sent email to all the runners afterward apologizing for not having enough. He said he didn't anticipate how hot it would get and that runners were using cups of water to pour over themselves. They even went to the local Safeway and cleared out all their water, but that still wasn't enough!
