2010 Healdsburg Wine Country Marathon and Half
Shalimar and I went on our annual trip to Healdsburg to race in the Wine Country Marathon and Half-Marathon. This year's races were held on October 10th (10/10/10) - an easy date to remember during our summer of training. Unlike last year, the weather was unseasonably warm and the heat made the race very challenging. The course temperatures ranged between 60 degrees at start time to a high of 96 - a perfect day for a run! Shalimar was trying to set her personal record by beating last year's time of 2:45:02.8 and I was making my third attempt at breaking four hours. I wonder how we did...

Here I am crossing the finish. My chip time was 4:08:49.8. I wasn't able to finish under four hours but I was pleasantly surprised by the time. In many ways, I am most proud of my performance in this race because there was so much to overcome. Before the fall, the race was going quite well and according to plan. At the half-way turnaround I was running at a 3:52 marathon pace. I was running free and easy. My legs felt fresh and I believe I would have had a lot left for a strong finish just like in my training runs.
